The distance from Sydney to Siem Reap, Cambodia, is 7,252km. That’s around 9, 572,640 steps. This April, I am proud to be part of a team that is virtually walking the distance to Cambodia.
By supporting my participation in the Walk to Cambodia, you will help me raise funds to provide education for Cambodian children living in poverty. Children like *Theany.
Theany comes from a family living in extreme poverty. His mother recognised that Theany couldn’t read and write in his native language, despite studying at public school, and came to Human and Hope for help. Theany was provided with an education scholarship that included free tuition and study supplies, and he was placed in the beginner Khmer language class.
The local staff at Human and Hope identified that Theany had learning difficulties, and although it took two years, he was able to progress to the advanced Khmer language class. Theny’s teacher was able to provide him with individual support, which wasn’t possible at public school, resulting in Theany’s reading and writing improving dramatically.
“I spend time reading storybooks in the library every day. In the future, I want to be a policeman.”
Theany is currently studying in grade four at public school and also studies English at Human and Hope. He has a bright future because of Human and Hope. Your generosity in supporting my Walk to Cambodia will ensure other children like Theany are afforded the same opportunity.
